Steve Kiner played under the resurgent years of Vols football under Doug Dickey. Taking the field Dickey’s final three years on the UT sidelines, Kiner was a missile from the linebacker spot. He was a two time All-SEC, two-time First Team All-American, and even ascended into the top ten of Heisman vote getters in 1969. Kiner’s defense proved to be the best in Tennessee history up to that point, setting school records in fewest rushing yards allowed on a per game basis.
