Tennessee v. Florida 10/12/24

The volunteers did not play well, but still came away with the win over our rival Florida 23 to 17 in overtime on Saturday evening- as a lot of coaches saying a win is a win, but it was not pretty.  Coach Heupel said the defense did what they had to do to come away with the win.

 

The Volunteers overall record is 5-1 and 2-1 in the SEC. Tennessee has now defeated Florida for the third time in the last 20 years, both teams on defense dominated the first half as Florida scored first on a 42 yard field goal by Trey Smack with 3:15 to go and the 1st quarter.

Florida defense sacked Nico three times at the end of the first quarter.

 

Tennessee defense held Florida on 4th and 1, the gators then fumbled   on TN 1 yard line, TN recovered  with 4:38 to go in the first half.

 

Scored stayed at FL 3- TN – 0

 

Tennessee was shut out in the 1st half for the second straight game. Florida scored the first touchdown of the game as Boardingham scored on a 13 yard pass from Mertz, extra point by Trey Smack was Good.

 

FL 10 – TN 0 with 4:40 to go in the 3rd Q

 

Tennessee finally scored on a 6 yard run by Dillon Sampson with 2:57 to go in the 3rd quarter, extra point good by Max Gilbert.

 

FL 10 – TN 7

 

Tennessee almost immediately intercepted a pass by Aaron Carter with 2:47 to go in the 3rd quarter.  With 1:42 to go in the 3rd Q, Max Gilbert for TN kicks a 35 yard field goal to tie the Score.

Sampson then put the volunteers ahead for the first time in the game with 9:42 to go in the 4th Q, on a 23 yard run by Sampson, Max Gilberts kick was good.

 

TN 17 – FL 10

 

FL scored on a 27 yards pass play Lagway to Dike with 29 seconds to go in regulation. Extra point by Smack was good.

 

Game is Tied (Overtime)

In Overtime FL received 1st, missing a 47 yard field goal, wide right.

 

TN marched down the field and scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by work horse Dylan Sampson.
